The inspiration to start a business comes from so many different places. A wonderful night out at a great restaurant suddenly turns into thoughts of being a restauranteur. Import/Export business ideas come from that trip to Italy. You get the picture. Imagine having an idea for a business that did not make sense for your locale. How do you make it work?
When we were in college, the group Tony! Toni! Tone! sang a song called, It Never Rains In Southern California. We know it rains there, but does it snow?
It may never snow in San Clemente, a quaint beach town in Southern California known for having “the world’s best climate,” but that doesn’t stop residents Anne and Dave Gullo from operating a successful snowboarding company. Because of the Internet, the Gullos have turned their favorite pastime into a booming home-based business, while still being able to enjoy warm, sunny weather virtually every day of the year.
Sharing a mutual passion for cold weather sports, the Gullos decided to start a business selling snowboards and accessories in 1998. Having no intention to relocate to a ski resort area where the demand for snowboards would surely outpace their own community’s demand for surfboards, they decided to venture online to launch www.snowboards-for-sale.com.
Dave, a web applications engineer, designed the site entirely from scratch and continues to maintain it on a daily basis. Anne, a stay-at-home mom, manages inventory and ships all of the orders. Both husband and wife field customer calls and answer e-mail inquiries.
Winter will be here before we know it. The Gullos have definitely shown that you can run your business from anywhere on the planet. Check out their website, and send them an email
